Nobody starts out perfect at anything. Were you perfect at drawing when it was your first time? I doubt it but if you were, that's all the more impressive.

The game you're thinking of is probably closer to the indie game Disc Creatures and its in-development sequel Disc Creatures World. I recommend both of them.

The thing about monster collectors is that they're really huge projects with the amount of assets you have to work with and create.

According to many developers that have made or are making games in the genre, you should aim towards making smaller, simpler games first before taking on such a large project. Use the smaller projects to improve and then use what you learn to improve at the skills needed to make even bigger and better games.

It's really no different from learning to draw simple things to drawing more complex things to even more complex art, etc.

It's really a wise idea to NOT make a big monster collector game your first project. Make other games first and maybe you'll be more comfortable with making mistakes.

Besides, a game doesn't have to be perfect to be loved or do well. If you know me, then you know I point out how Pokemon is chock full of imperfections yet people love it.

Don't lose heart. I'm sure you'll live your dream someday.

Even I myself am working towards learning to use Unity and Blender by taking classes on Udemy so I can make my own games and start by making simpler games.
